Installing Copsy

One-time setup. Takes about 60 seconds.

Open the .dmg

Double-click Copsy.dmg in your Downloads folder. A Finder window opens showing three items:

The .app file is intentionally hidden — you install via the ① script.

Don't double-click the ① INSTALL script — see step 2.

Right-click → Open

Control + click (or two-finger click) on ① INSTALL Copsy.command. Pick Open from the menu.

The menu is the same as ⌘+Click; whichever your trackpad does.

Why not just double-click? macOS treats anything downloaded from the internet as untrusted by default. Right-click → Open is Apple's official one-time bypass for apps that aren't notarized (Copsy costs $0; Apple's notarization costs $99/yr — not yet).

Confirm in Apple's warning — one click, only once

macOS shows a small alert: “Apple could not verify… is free of malware.” Click Open. (The button you want is on the LEFT, not the blue "Move to Bin" on the right.)

? “① INSTALL Copsy.command” cannot be opened. Apple could not verify “Copsy” is free of malware that may harm your Mac. Open Move to Bin Done click "Open"

After this one click, macOS remembers and never shows this for the same file again.

If you accidentally double-clicked the script first and only saw “Move to Bin / Done” (no Open button), close that dialog with Done and go back to step 2 — right-click → Open. The dialog with the Open button only appears via right-click.

The installer runs — ~3 seconds, hands-off

A small black Terminal window flashes. It copies the app to Applications, removes macOS's quarantine lock, and opens Copsy. No clicks needed.

Grant Full Disk Access

Copsy opens with a window saying “One more switch.” Click the purple Open Privacy Settings button. macOS jumps straight to the right pane.

Flip the toggle for Copsy

System Settings opens at Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. Find Copsy in the list and flick the switch on. (You may need to authenticate with Touch ID or your Mac password — that's macOS, not us.)

Privacy & Security Full Disk Access Allow apps below to access data like Mail, Messages, Safari, Home, Time Machine backups and certain administrative settings. Google Chrome VLC Copsy zoom.us ＋ ＿

If Copsy doesn't appear, click the ＋ button at the bottom of the list, navigate to /Applications, and pick Copsy manually.

Once you flip the toggle, the One more switch. window in Copsy notices within a second or two and closes itself. You're done.

You're set

Plug in a memory card. Copsy detects it, the Cards screen wakes up, and copying starts (if you've set a destination — or it asks you to pick one). Optional: link Telegram from the Telegram tab so you get a ping the moment each card is safe.
