What ChronoSync actually is
ChronoSync is one of the most respected file-sync and backup utilities on the Mac, made by Econ Technologies. It does scheduled syncs, bidirectional folder mirroring, bootable backups, network and cloud-mount targets, rules and filters, and it can verify that copied files match the source. If your problem is "keep these folders / disks / servers in sync, on a schedule, reliably," ChronoSync is an excellent answer, and at around $49.99 it's fairly priced for what it does.
It is not a camera-offload tool, though. It treats a camera card like any other mounted volume of folders. It has no idea that a folder is a Sony XAVC clip set, an ARRI .mxf reel, a RED .r3d magazine, a Blackmagic BRAW roll, a Canon card, a drone capture or an audio-recorder take, and it has no concept of an ASC-MHL media manifest. That's the gap.
Why camera-awareness matters on set
A generic sync tool will happily copy whatever's mounted. The trouble is everything a camera offload needs to be safe and trustworthy lives above plain file copying:
- Detect the card by content. Copsy recognizes what kind of media is on the card (Sony, ARRI, RED, Blackmagic/BMD, Canon, drones, audio recorders) so it knows it's a source to read, not a destination to overwrite.
