A free Mac ShotPut Pro alternative for verified camera offload
Copsy is a free Mac camera-offload app and the closest free alternative to ShotPut Pro, the long-time "industry standard" offload tool from Imagine Products. Plug in an SD, CFexpress or camera card and Copsy auto-detects it, copies the footage to your drive and to Google Drive or Dropbox in parallel, verifies every file with ASC-MHL checksums, and pings you on Telegram when it's done. It's free, with no card limit and no signup.
ShotPut Pro is a paid perpetual license at roughly $169. If you mainly need fast, verified offloads, Copsy does that part for free.

What is ShotPut Pro?
ShotPut Pro, made by Imagine Products, has been the default "copy your cards safely" application for DITs, loaders and editors for well over a decade. It copies media off camera cards to one or more destinations, verifies the copy with checksums (including ASC-MHL), and spits out a clean offload report you can hand to production. It's trusted on big sets and runs on both macOS and Windows.
The catch for a lot of people is simply price: ShotPut Pro is a paid app at roughly $169 for a perpetual license (with subscription and volume options on top). For shooters who just need to copy a card and know it copied correctly, that's a real cost for a workflow they run every single shoot.
That's the gap Copsy fills. The parts most people actually rely on: auto-detect the card, copy it to a drive (and the cloud), and verify it with ASC-MHL, done for free.

Where ShotPut Pro is still ahead
I'm not going to pretend Copsy beats ShotPut Pro on everything. It doesn't, and a paid industry tool earns its keep in a few areas:
Reasons to stick with ShotPut Pro
- Windows support. ShotPut Pro runs on Windows; Copsy is macOS-only (macOS 13+).
- Deep offload reports & presets. ShotPut Pro generates detailed, customizable offload/PDF reports and elaborate destination presets that some productions formally require. Copsy keeps reporting simple.
- Established studio pipelines. If your post house already standardizes on ShotPut Pro report formats or specific MHL workflows, staying put avoids friction.
Copsy also doesn't do LTO/LTFS archiving, and it has no NLE panel integrations (Premiere/Resolve). It's focused on one thing: getting your card copied to a drive and the cloud, verified, with as little fuss as possible.
Who should switch to Copsy
Copsy is the right free alternative if you…
- Offload SD / CFexpress / camera / drone / audio cards on a Mac and want it verified, not just dragged in Finder.
- Want a drive copy and a Google Drive or Dropbox copy from the same offload.
- Don't want to pay ~$169 for the core "copy a card safely" workflow.
- Like getting a Telegram ping when the card is done so you can walk away.
How Copsy offloads a card
- Plug in the card. Copsy detects it by content and recognizes the camera/source (Sony, ARRI, RED, Blackmagic, Canon, drones, audio recorders).
- Pick destinations. An external drive, plus optionally Google Drive or Dropbox — copied in parallel.
- Walk away. Copsy copies, organizes by date and source, and verifies every file with ASC-MHL checksums.
- Get pinged. A Telegram message tells you it finished and verified — nothing lost.
